“Custom” Oakley at Tour de France
Oakley today announced the latest news from the Tour de France 2010 and the personalized versions of the exclusive high performance sun models that will be worn by the cyclists competing for the yellow jersey. "We have concentrated on the most advanced optical technology to meet the needs of the best cyclists in the world, who have also added a personal touch by collaborating directly with our designers", said Colin Baden, Oakley president and CEO. "The Oakley Radar® and Jawbone sun models are among the most requested by the élite of world cycling and symbolize our desire to offer the best performance and protection."
“With the Oakley Custom Program (OCP)” – Baden continued – “cyclists can regulate performance according to competition conditions by selecting the lenses that best adapt to changes in light during the Tour. They can choose the colors of the various elements in the frame to have their team colors, to express a personal style, and they can even have laser engravings on the lenses. In short, total freedom for everyone to choose their eyewear: the custom program is available to fans to enable them to support their idols by recreating models that are similar to those worn for the race.”
Lance Armstrong is on the trail of the eighth historical win by relying on the special edition of Oakley Radar, LIVESTRONG™, with the new photochromic Oakley Iridium® lenses in transparent black. Thanks to photochromic technology, lens color changes with the light while neutral light transmission optimizes color perception.
Olympic gold medalist and current world time trial champion Fabian Cancellara will be wearing Radar, personalized with Saxo Bank colors and with Positive Red® Iridium lenses in the Path® shape.
The winner of the Tour de France 2008, Carlos Sastre, will also be counting on the performance and protection of the Radar model in the special edition with his team’s colors: polished white for the frame, polished black for the logo and black for the temple end pieces.
Mark Cavendish is a sprinter with few equals and he needs exceptional eyewear to sprint on two wheels like only he knows how. His ideal sun model is Jawbone BMX Chrome, personalized with the lower edges in Team Bright Green. Mark will adapt to the changing light with interchangeable lenses Jade Iridium and Fire Iridium.
Second in the Tour last year, Andy Schleck will battle to dominate the podium by relying on his Oakley Jawbone, which combines a frame in Team Navy Blue with a polished white lower edge and white temple end pieces. Andy will wear polarized Ice Iridium lenses which, thanks to Oakley HDPolarized technology, protect the eyes from the reflections from all surfaces.
Other competitors in the Tour have chosen OCP to give their eyes a personal style with exclusive combinations of colors and lenses that optimize performance in any light conditions. The athletes include:
George Hincapie: Jawbone, with matte white frame, lower edge in Team Blue, Anodized Red screws and Team Red logo. (Lenses: HDPolarized in Positive Red Iridium and Fire Iridium.)
