Thanks to Oakley, Luxottica revolutionizes the 3D experience

Oakley, the Luxottica group’s brand, has announced that it has developed a new technology for seeing three-dimensional images that will revolutionize the 3D experience. The high-technology of Oakley frames is combined with innovative lenses that optimize the three-dimensional experience and take it to levels of absolute excellence: thanks to the patented new HDO-3DTM technology, Oakley’s new 3D glasses will be the first in the world to guarantee three-dimensional vision with optically-corrected lenses.

“Oakley has again confirmed that it is an extraordinary brand”, commented Andrea Guerra, Luxottica Chief Executive Officer. “We are especially proud of this innovation, the outcome of our research and development activities, which we are certain will revolutionize the entire 3D sector”.

“Our 3D glasses represent a turning point in three-dimensional entertainment, a new standard for the entire industry”, added Oakley CEO Colin Baden. “Thanks to our collaboration with the sector’s main players like DreamWorks, Oakley can now offer incomparable three-dimensional vision with lenses based on the extraordinary optical properties of passive polarization technology, improved peripheral vision and optimum image alignment. Not to mention the excellent materials, style, quality and comfort of the frames that clearly distinguish our glasses from those currently used for 3D”.

“It’s significant that a brand like Oakley, which is famous for its innovations, has decided to enter the 3D entertainment sector”, added Jeffrey Katzenberg, Chief Executive Officer and Director of DreamWorks Entertainment. “We are particularly proud of how Oakley has significantly improved the performance of 3D glasses to make it possible for viewers to fully enjoy 3D movies with better image and color definition”.

Oakley 3D glasses will be available before the 2010 holiday season, initially in the United States through selected distribution channels, including 115 opticians stores, the majority of which are close to the main movie theaters. Oakley 3D glasses will be available in the rest of the world during 2011.

Oakley is also working with the producers of 3D systems for the home that have adopted passive polarization technology: this will allow consumers to use the same pair of glasses at home and at the movie theater.

The top models in the new 3D collection which will meet the needs of all consumers of 3D entertainment will be based on the patented HDO-3DTM technology that offers unparalleled vision quality: apart from being the world’s first 3D lenses to be optically corrected, Oakley lenses will be the first with a high curve, a determining factor for maximizing viewers’ field of vision. Panoramic vision can be enjoyed without having to turn your head to follow scenes at the edges of the movie screen. Another benefit is a considerable reduction in the effects of reflected light, one of the weak points in traditional 3D lenses.

The patented technologies for Oakley 3D lenses are associated with the high quality of the frames: every pair of Oakley glasses is made from top-quality, lightweight but strong materials. Oakley’s Three-Point Fit technology also keeps lenses perfectly aligned and guarantees a comfortable fit in any conditions to make Oakley 3D glasses the best on the market for these applications.
