Piero Massaro new creations inspired by Wilmer Herrison
For designer Piero Massaro, the meeting with Venezuelan artist Wilmer Herrison (who gave an interesting talk May 23 titled "Reflections on colors" at the Mondadori bookstore in Venice), was not only an opportunity to exchange ideas, he was also profoundly affected by it: and in fact the colors of his latest eyewear collection that made its debut just a few weeks ago are obviously inspired by the artist’s canvases.
The shining transparences of some acetates are an unmistakable reference to Wilmer’s “Little Venice”, the black and whites to early movies, his "Laguna", and the greens and yellows to the natural elements in many of the canvases by “Pachamama".
Using a completely new research language, Piero Massaro has created a collection of shapes in deep colors by overlapping various layers of acetate, or of ephemeral colors by using colored crystals coated with a fine acetate laminate. The many carefully composed shades of the temples and profiles, the designer’s distinctive features, also impart a persuasive line to more decisive shapes.
Also highly refined, almost like a delicate brushstroke, are the subdued "whiskers" on the brow of some models, including the attractive butterfly and the eternal round shape. The designer’s only small whim in this collection is the separated whisker on two models, one of which is a Nylor: non-excessive audacity and delicate details that will easily captivate more serious personalities.
