Mipel: showcasing “handbag fashion” for spring/summer 2010

Mipel: showcasing “handbag fashion” for spring/summer 2010

Fiera-Milano Rho will open its doors on September 19 to the 98th edition of Mipel now taking place on Sunday through Wednesday. A choice dictated by the organizers’ desire to “create a system” and also by the requests of Italian buyers who prefer to visit the exhibition on Sunday.

This edition features many new additions. They include an interesting exhibition of sketches by famous artists from the Twenties to the Fifties. For the occasion, pavilion 12 will be turned into a fashion and accessories route seen through the eyes of the most renowned illustrators of the period.

The organizers have again proposed the now customary competitions and the presentation of the awards for the previous edition will be held Tuesday, September 21 at 5.30pm in the Juicy Lounge in pavilion 16.

Another interesting initiative to be remembered is the FuoriSaloneMipel, also taking place September 21 thanks to the collaboration with Volo, 4Cento, L'ogu Café and Roialto. Chosen from everyone who orders a cocktail, 30 lucky people will receive a gift of the original fabric shoulder bags made by the members of Aimpes for Mipel’s Fantasy competition. The initiative’s aim is to combine fashion and solidarity, as part of the proceeds from the evening will be allocated to the non profit-organization Care&Share Onlus, which was set up in Venice in 1991. Its testimonial is Alviero Martini, who handles long-distance adoptions.

Aimpes is already working on the advertising for the 100th edition of Mipel September 2011. An opportunity to totally review the image of the exhibition! The project will be carried out in collaboration with students from the Istituto Italiano di Fotografia, who will collect the most evocative photographs, starting with this year’s Mipel. After a careful selection of images during the March 2011 edition, there will be the start of “È....Cento volte Mipel”, an exhibition of 50 shots. The best 10 will be chosen and one of these will become the institutional image for the 100th edition.

As far as figures are concerned, at the opening press conference a positive change in production was confirmed for the first six months of the year after a downturn of two consecutive years. The increase is due to good recovery of international demand and the inventory build-up of this products after the recent strong contraction.

In general, it can be said that there has been a halt in the recession stage and that all economic indicators are positive, even though total recovery is not expected until next year and we will have to wait until immediately after that for a return to the levels of 2007 and early 2008.

The appointment with Mipel is at the Rho-Pero Exhibition Center, September 19 through 21, 2010
