John Galliano eyewear 2010
john Galliano: “Sunglasses are the ultimate accessory and alibi. They are status symbols that exude luxury, as well as mystery. They protect the private gaze as well as frame an image of chic, any time, anywhere. I wanted to create pure Galliano Glamour, to fuse function and high-fashion and to morph faces and frames to create the ultimate sunglasses collection. Day, night, any season, anywhere, strike a pose as long as its in Galliano.”
Spring 2010 marks the in-store launch of the highly anticipated collection of sunglasses, Made In Italy and created exclusively for John Galliano by Marcolin.
Always the storyteller Galliano drew inspiration from everywhere: from movie stars to makeup, runways to the red carpet. Eccentric heiresses to ethnic beauties collide to inspire new look icons, in very original, very Galliano, shades. This icon collection captures Galliano’s spirit of innovation and romance with a range that morphs into the many, yet unmistakeable, faces of Galliano’s imagination. Eighteen new sunglasses for the off-duty icon to flamenco dancer, the everyday to there extraordinary – there is a style for all seasons as all the frames infuse the spirit of Galliano’s innovative and eccentric soul.
Take a rose tinted look into Galliano’s world through the eyes of exotic elegance with his two lead styles, the heroine: Les Biches, or hero: the Beau Regard.
‘Les Biches’ first made its debut on the SS2010 Galliano runway. For this style John Galliano went back to his roots, his Spanish heritage, and the Flamenco. Enchanted by the doe-eyed girls, and inspired by the French phrase ‘oeil de biche’, he created an exclusive new style – ‘Les Biches’; a dark and sultry oversize wrap shade, inspired by the fiery flamenco dancers’ honeycomb crown, the Spanish Peinetas. Dark lenses blend to smoky arms and fade from greys to a delicate pink hue, and give the illusion of softly blushed cheeks. These shades tell a story of seduction, mystery and femininity, in the softest Technicolor with his seal of approval, the JG logo, positioned in the end of the temple tip.
‘Beau Regard’ is the men’s signature model combining Maison motifs with cinematic influences in a stylish wide plastic front bar, set over a slim lower metal frame, with temples in contrasting colours. Inspired by the 60s Hollywood rebels and the legendary Rat Pack, these sunglasses shade the sparkle of the modern man’s roving eye, just like the tinted glass of the Cadillac that used to protect the stars from their enraptured fans, while the frames metal rivets echo the graphic lines of the limos they cruised in. These heartthrobs are not only concealed, they are enhanced by this headline grabbing Galliano shade as dusk falls, or for the morning after.
“I wanted to blend Old School glamour with high-tech romance, so we looked at innovations in plastics and pushed new lens techniques to in spire this story. I wanted a Galliano decadence and depth of character in the personality of each of these glasses.” John Galliano explains, and the line up is as original as you would expect.
