Istituto Zaccagnini XIV annual conference

Istituto Zaccagnini XIV annual conference

The 2010 edition of the conference, scheduled for February 6 through 8, will go beyond the traditional scientific and professional subjects and also cover those concerning work and employment.

Because of its geographical position and exhibition and conference infrastructures, Bologna is one of Italy’s centers of reference which for years has included an important event linked to the world of optics: the interdisciplinary conference organized by Istituto Benigno Zaccagnini.

The scientific conference will take place Monday and Sunday, with a program that includes plenary sessions and six educational courses with CME credits.

After a year of reflection, this year the Conference has changed its location and has moved to the Conference Center at the Hotel Savoia Regency in the city of Bologna, which is easily reached from the freeways and rail station.

One of the fundamental subjects covered by the comprehensive conference program is openness to school and professions. In the current economic situation, the problem of employment, obviously in addition to scientific and professional subjects, could not be ignored. Specific reference is made to young people who have completed their educational courses and are entering the world of work, to companies that employ professionals from whom a contribution is expected in very different fields and, lastly, to teaching and the academic world responsible for education.

As far as this aspect is concerned, the highlight of the Conference will be the Educational Symposium, Saturday, February 6, whose entrance is free for students and teachers. This event will include the participation of the main players in distribution and industry as well as international academics.

The Educational Symposium is divided into two sections. The first section will discuss “Training, the professionalism requested and prospects in the optics and optometry sector” which aims at receiving from employers (in industry and distribution) information about the required expertise and from the European academic world of education and training, balanced solutions that correspond to the different needs of both worlds. At the same time, the seminar will be an opportunity to clarify what choices young people must make in order to become professional opticians. Taking part in the symposium will be Professor Naroo of Aston University, Birmingham, UK.

The second section of the Symposium will be moderated and presented by Professor Wolffshon of Aston University, Birmingham, UK, and concerns “Modern contactology teaching” to complete the information and orientation begun in the first section.

One of the other events in the program on the evening of Sunday, February 7, is a party open to all Conference participants at which diplomas will be presented to the students of Istituto Benigno Zaccagnini who attained their operating license and certificate of specialization in optics and optometry during academic year 2008/2009.

The conference work is CME accredited.
