First “Ciba Vision European EyeLife Summit”

First “Ciba Vision European EyeLife Summit”

About half the world’s population has eyesight defects which are corrected by wearing eyeglasses or contact lenses. The figures also apply to Italy, where 51.8 percent1 of the population uses optical devices to correct a defect and about 3.2 million2 (5.3 percent of the population) wear contact lenses. In the latter case, research has shown in particular that, inadvertently, Italians do not always take full advantage of the related benefits or are simply not sufficiently informed, just as many wearers of eyeglasses often ignore the fact they can use a different kind of device to correct eyesight, especially those with astigmatism or presbyopia.

These aspects together with the latest clinical developments in treating eyesight defects will be the subjects discussed at the first CIBA VISION European EyeLife Summit, an event that has brought about 700 eye care professionals to Rome from all over Europe as well as such world-famous experts as Australian optometrist Prof. Brien Anthony Holden and the scientist Dr. Bertrand Piccard.

Taking care of your eyes is a recurring theme in the life of contact lens wearers and contactologists. With the leitmotif of “Learn. Lead. Succeed Together”, the Summit is organized like a forum that follows the logic of “peer-to-peer” learning. The aim is to provide participants with the most updated information and tools for identifying and taking care of different consumer requirements in the various stages of their life. The main areas on which the event focuses are:

Myopia – opportunities and challenges
Respecting contact lens usage instructions
Geometries for astigmatism and presbyopia
Business and leadership
Innovation and the future of contact lenses
