Zeiss: LotuTec passes all tests
The new LotuTec treatment from Zeiss, presented October 2003, has exceeded all the most optimistic expectations.
LotuTec underwent the following tests:
- heat: the lenses were subjected for several hours to high temperatures. Subsequently, they were inspected for visible, and less evident, changes to the surface;
- friction: the lenses were rubbed hard several times with a cotton cloth. They were then inspected for surface damage;
- environmental stress: sunlight, humidity and exposure to different temperatures are three conditions that stress the surfaces of lenses. This test evaluated the quality of the treatment in a wide range of climatic conditions;
- boiling in salted water: the lenses were boiled in a saline solution for a few minutes. They were then tested for surface damage;
- lattice incisions: the lens surface was lattice-cut using a blade (vertical and horizontal incisions). An adhesive film was then applied over several cycles and the lenses were then assessed for small signs of separation.
LotuTec passed all the tests with full marks. During the first three months it has been in use, Italian customers have shown that they are completely satisfied with the product. Soon LotuTec will be available also in the 1.6 range.
The advantages guaranteed by LotuTec are:
- lenses that are always clean thanks to the 'lotus leaf' effect;
- reflection-free vision;
- very high transparency;
- almost total absence of misting;
- excellent seal and durability.
