
Usa: Christmas shopping will be focused on clothing
According to a report carried out by the Npd research center, the shopping period that coincides with the Christmas holidays will be particularly profitable for the clothing sector.
According to the survey, over 67% of Americans will go to clothing stores or to department stores specializing in clothing to buy at least one garment for themselves or as a present. Toys, books, CDs and DVDs come next.
Some specific data take a closer look at this trend: 66% of women and 57% of men will buy clothing; over 74% of those buying clothing have children, while only 57% of consumers with no children will make the same choice; 69% of consumers with a yearly income of over 75,000 dollars will buy at clothing stores, but 51% of those with an income of less than 25,000 dollars will also buy at least one garment or accessory; of the consumers who intend to spend less than 300 dollars on presents this year, around 47% will buy clothing; of those who intend to spend between 301 and 748 dollars, over 68% will buy clothing; lastly, of those who will spend over 750 dollars, 75% will buy clothing or clothing accessories.
Sales at the main department stores and specialist clothing stores in the top or mid-high range (Bergdorf Goodman, Barney's, Neiman Marcus, Saks, Nordstrom, Michell) have continued to rise in recent months.
