UK: eye test action day
New research on drivers' vision will claim that a third of motorists have poor eyesight and are putting themselves and others at risk.
The research, which tested the vision of 700 drivers, will be released later this month as part of the Royal National Institute of the Blind's yearly Eye Test Action Day, on October 27.
The event, which has become a regular feature in the optical calendar, is the charity s annual eye care awareness raising opportunity. This time it is aimed at the UK's 31 million drivers and is being supported by Dollond & Aitchison, the retail chain owned by Italian Group De Rigo, and Rac Auto Windscreens.
A roadshow for the event will include a D&A specialist who will sight test drivers by asking them to read a vehicle licence plate at the required legal distance of 20.5 metres at four service stations.
In addition, D&A will donate £5 to the Rnib for every eye test during a two-month period using a promotional voucher.
