Safilo on show in Switzerland
On Saturday, September 4 the exhibition 'L'estasi degli oggetti' (the ecstasy of objects) was opened at the Photographic Art Museum in Winterthur, Switzerland, and will remain open through November 14.
It is a traveling photographic exhibition whose theme is functional and decorative objects and how they have evolved during the 20th century: a retrospective of all those 'things' that have become part of our daily lives, thanks also to the contribution of famous designers.
Eyewear is also a part of this world and this is why the Safilo Group was chosen to represent its production category: on display are 5 historical photographs showing eyewear production from the Forties to the present day, and 4 photographs taken by the best photographers in the world for the advertisements of the collections signed and produced by the Padua-based company.
A demonstration of how glasses have also changed over the years from being useful and extremely functional objects to genuine fashion accessories, which is also thanks to the heritage of style and technology that has been developed in the seventy years of Safilo Group activity.
This exhibition is a continuation of the Padua company's strong link with art: the exhibition 'Normal Wonders. A map of little creations' has recently ended. Set up at the Magazzini del Cotone in Genoa by Alessandro Mendini, it was an exhibition of glasses from the Carrera and Smith collections and included a model from the Safilo archives.
The Safilo Group also boasts a prestigious private collection devoted to eyewear: the Galleria Guglielmo Tabacchi, located inside the company, is one of the most important single-theme museums in the world.
