Nico: Icelite for Racing model

The Racing model in Nico's Derapage collection and winner of the Silmo Gold 2004 in the 'frames - technological innovations' category, is in Icelite, a plastic material with optimum mechanical properties, good flexibility and good resistance to thermal distortion.

Milled from 1mm-thick sheets, Icelite can be colored with acrylic paint or color transfers and even in exceptionally strong light conditions the colors are very stable. The finished front piece is inserted in a bronze mount. The negative lens is inserted in the front piece simply by pressing.

Nico envisages that future developments of the Racing project will combine Icelite with other materials, such as acetate, that are traditionally used in the optics sector. The project can also be applied to sunglasses.
