General Optica helps Medicus Mundi
For its fifth cooperation campaign with Medicus Mundi, the Spanish chain, General Optica, has already collected 80,000 pairs of used glasses which will be sent to poor people in developing countries.
'Year after year this initiative is becoming increasingly more important', declared Felix Fuentegro, general manager of Medicus Mundi.
This year's campaign began at the beginning of November and will officially end at end January, by which time the organizers hope to have collected 100,000 pairs. Over the last five years a total of 240,000 pairs of glasses have been sent to countries where the NGO works, such as Brazil, Bolivia, Honduras, Tanzania, and a smaller number to other Medicus Mundi bases.
General Optica sources expressed their satisfaction with the outcome of the initiative, and revealed that dozens of people have called participating stores to find out how to send in their glasses. General Optica contributes to the initiative not only with glasses, but financially, too: it allocates one euro for every pair donated.
