France: Asnav at education fair
This year, Asnav (Association Nationale pour l'Amélioration de la Vue) will be present for the first time at the Salon de l'Education, the exhibition dedicated to students which will take place from November 18 through 21 at the Parc des Expositions, Paris.
At that time, 'The eye and sight' exhibit will be presented and students will be asked to answer a questionnaire about their 'sight history' from infancy. A high percentage of school children do in fact have undiagnosed sight problems, which are the cause of poor progress at school or difficulties with socializing.
Prevention is a very important subject in France and in Italy, where in previous years the Commissione Difesa Vista (the equivalent of Asnav in France) developed the 'Occhio agli occhi! Allenarsi a vedere. Giocare e guardare' (Keep an eye on your eyes! Train yourselves to see. Play and look.) project, for classes in the second grade. By means of a variety of tools and laboratory activities, the initiative aimed at creating greater awareness about how sight works and its importance.
The French association has chosen the Salon de l'Education as a means of making young people more aware about the importance of preserving good vision throughout all the stages of their lives, and of correcting any anomalies that could be caused by various activities, especially studying, reading and using a computer.
