China: prison sentences for counterfeiters

In China, counterfeiting products of any kind (films, cds, dvds, bags, clothing and various utensils) could become a crime and be punishable by a prison sentence.

In response to pressure from the Us on the strictness of the sanctions against piracy, Beijing plans to introduce prison sentences for anyone caught counterfeiting.

'What was considered in the past to be a simple infringement of intellectual property rights, could soon become a crime' the newspaper, China Daily reported, quoting a judge at the Supreme People's Court.
