MDG, the first eyewear collection designed by Madonna

MDG, the first eyewear collection designed by Madonna

Dolce&Gabbana and Madonna present MDG: the first collection of sunglasses designed by the singer together with stylists Domenico Dolce and Stefano Gabbana. The first six models will be launched May 2010.

Featuring the MDG logo, the collection will be produced by Luxottica and is Madonna’s debut in the world of eyewear.

“Designing a line of eyewear with Madonna was a new experience for us. We’ve created large, wraparound shapes that are also sexy and very feminine, just like our fashions. Madonna’s creative input was essential, also for the creation of the MDG logo”, Domenico Dolce and Stefano Gabbana said.

Madonna will also be the testimonial of the MDG advertising campaign.
Photographed by Steven Klein in New York City, the campaign is a film noir featuring a mysterious, sensual Madonna and an intriguing guy played by supermodel Tyson Ballou.

A video camera was used to give the campaign a cinematographic effect: the photographs are like the frames of a short film and the print layout is reminiscent of the classical clips from a movie.

The voyeuristic images metaphorically conjure up the essence of a star like Madonna: she is admired, spied on, adored, pursued, desired, but never totally revealed because of her dark glasses and aura of mystery.
