Waiting for the DaTE: Blake Kuwahara

DaTE, the international fair for avant-garde eyewear, will take place from Saturday 11th to Monday 13th September in Florence, at the Leopolda station. The event aims to be a strategic meeting opportunity, attracting companies which are known worldwide for their eyewear innovation and design, for their exclusive and selected products. As the ninth edition of DaTE approaches, we have interviewed some of the key players.

In this interview we meet Blake Kuwahara from the homonimous brand.

Shaping the avant-garde is the essence of DaTE. What is the essence of your brand and how do you interpret the avant-garde?

Like with fashion, there are no specific trends at the moment. Having said that, I'm gravitating to smaller round silhouettes and larger geometric shapes.

Materials are a key element of unique and original collections which do not neglect sustainability. Which ones have you chosen for the DaTe 2021 collections?

People often forget that quality is a very important component to being environmentally responsible. It's not just the types of materials that you use, but how many years of wearability you have with your eyewear selection. We mainly use cellulose acetate which is cotton based, but put extra effort to ensure our frames are of the highest quality to have the longest possible usable life.
