Vanni produces a capsule on the winning project of the 'Vanni #artistroom' award.

Vanni confirms its link with the art world, announcing again for 2022 the Vanni award #artistroom at Artissima, the emerging contemporary art fair in Turin. The award leads to the creation of an eyewear capsule collection in partnership with the Turin company.

This year, Teresa Giannico won the opportunity, and will see the launch of her limited edition collection in 2023.

At the same time, Vanni has launched the capsule collection “I breathe poetry”, based on a project by artist Catalin Pislaru – winner of the 2022 edition.

The “I breathe poetry” capsule collection

The collection of exclusive glasses draws on the pictorial world of the young Moldavian artist: an encounter between the two-dimensional stroke on the canvas and the three-dimensional form of a pair of glasses, with a shared sense of daring in its colour.

For Vanni, Catalin conjured up a pair of wraparound sunglasses in unisex or women’s versions, created with coloured layers of acetate, just as his paintings present layers of signs and colours on wood or aluminium.

Based on the artist’s creative concept, Vanni’s design office created a multi-layer frame that alternates ultra-fine sheets of monochrome acetate and plate glass. The frame – which allows the variation in colour to shine through the thickness – is milled and lowered at some points, to offer a plastic 3D effect which reveals accents of colour that emphasise the eyes.

A wraparound model that harks back to the 80s in appearance and in its visual uniformity that merges the front and lens, but in actual fact is a frame and thus suitable for graded lenses. The key colours are the same as those in Catalin’s works: red, yellow, and sky-blue for the unisex model, turquoise and lilac for the women’s model.

The project details

“I breathe poetry” is the title of the project, but also the phrase engraved on the temple as though handwritten by the artist, and Year 1988 and Year 2088 are the names of the two models of glasses. The collection is entirely made in Italy, in a limited series of 200 pieces, with a box designed by the artist.
