British eyewear designer Tom Davies is creating two pairs of limited edition sunglasses using a meteorite from planet Mars and has launched a JustGiving fundraiser for Orbis UK, a registered charity dedicated to saving sight worldwide. “A couple of months ago pre-Covid19 I planned a trip to travel to the Moroccan Sahara desert on the hunt for meteorites to turn into sunglasses. Not being able to leave on this adventure, I went for the next best thing -I purchased a piece of NWA6963 meteorite on Amazon! This meteorite is a rock that detached from Mars and landed in Morocco and is characterised by its unique purple, red and green tones, the perfect element to my exclusive new sunglasses design", said Tom Davies.

The brand has launched a JustGivingpage which will give people the opportunity to both enter a raffle and bid in an auction to win a piece of Mars. By simply donating £2 one will automatically enter in the raffle, or can bid the highest amount and win a pair out right.

The journey of the design, inspiration and creation of the sunglasses will be shared via all Tom Davies social channels and official website. The final frames will be handmade in London personally by Tom.

About Orbis

Orbis changes the way the world sees by preventing and treating avoidable blindness. Of the 253 million people in the world who are blind or visually impaired, 75% have conditions that are preventable or treatable. Orbis screens for and treats eye conditions, raises awareness about eye health, and trains and mentor local eye care teams in Africa, Asia and Latin America, where most of those people live.

It also operates a unique Flying Eye Hospital -a state-of-the-art ophthalmic teaching hospital on board a customised aircraft. Just £20 could help provide someone in a developing country with a cataract surgery.
