Sergio Luigi Cereda, an eminent visionary figure in the eyewear world, passed away on April 18, 2024, following a courageous battle with a long illness.
The family wished to remember him with a statement that we quote: “Surrounded by his loving family at his home in Castiglione Olona, Sergio left us at the age of 88, leaving behind a legacy that will forever resonate within the eyewear industry.
Born on June 21, 1935, in Lombardy, Italy, Sergio emerged as a paragon of creativity and dedication. His journey in the eyewear industry began at Mazzucchelli 1849 and blossomed throughout his career, earning him the reputation as one of the most influential eyewear designers globally. From his design studio in Varese, he collaborated extensively with numerous prestigious eyewear companies and international fashion houses, infusing each project with unmatched creativity and professionalism.
Sergio's life was a testament to his values; he was a devoted family man and a consummate professional. His elegant demeanor and natural class were unmistakable, characteristics that were only matched by his strong will and gracious courtesy. Sergio was not only a mentor to many but also a dedicated husband, father, and friend.
As we say goodbye to Sergio, we also celebrate his enduring impact on the world of design. He is survived by his wife Ivana, daughters Caterina and Stefania, and grandchildren Edoardo, Jordan Nicolò and Giada Grazia.
In his honor, the Sergio Cereda Eyewear Design Awards, each in the amount of $10,000.00 have been established by his longtime business partner and friend Harvey Ross to foster new talent in the industry he loved so dearly. These awards, supported by the Ross Family Viva Foundation and in collaboration with MIDO and 20/20 Magazine, will continue his legacy of excellence and innovation”.
