Sport and Vision: Commissione Difesa Vista at MIDO 2025
Exciting innovations, from virtual reality to visual prevention in sports
Commissione Difesa Vista ETS, a benchmark for visual health protection for over 50 years, will once again participate in MIDO – Milano Eyewear Show, one of the most prestigious international eyewear events, taking place from February 8 to 10 at Fieramilano Rho. This year, CDV will introduce an exclusive new feature: the Vista e Sport Virtual Arena, combining technology with vision care awareness.
At CDV’s booth (F23, Hall 1), visitors will have the chance to enjoy a unique experience using virtual reality headsets. The Virtual Arena will offer the opportunity to engage in two sports—tennis and target shooting biathlon—through realistic and immersive simulations. The experience will be divided into two phases: in the first, participants will compete with optimal vision; in the second, various visual impairments will be simulated, allowing them to understand firsthand how poor vision can impact both sports performance and personal safety.
The use of virtual reality marks a significant step forward in communication and awareness, making the message more direct and memorable. Tennis and biathlon, two sports that require concentration and precision, were specifically chosen to highlight the crucial role vision plays in athletic performance.
Additionally, for this edition of MIDO, CDV is organizing and promoting a special event at The Vision Stage on Sunday, February 9, at 3:00 PM: "Sport and Vision: The Importance of Visual Health in Sports." The event will feature Alessandro ‘Billy’ Costacurta, a legend of Italian football, and Dr. Francesco Loperfido, longtime CDV member and consultant, as well as Head of General Ophthalmology at San Raffaele Hospital in Milan. The discussion will focus on the importance of visual health, not only for enhancing sports performance but also for maintaining the overall well-being of both professional and amateur athletes.

Throughout the event, CDV will actively promote sports-related initiatives. In 2024, the organization launched the awareness campaign "Vista e Sport." CDV has supported numerous initiatives since last fall, participating in major national sporting events such as Tennis & Friends, the Women's Serie A Volleyball Championship, Cardio Race, and the nationwide distribution of the new "CDV Vista e Sport" campaign video.
