Safilo Group and Special Olympics Renew Their Longstanding Partnership Until 2027

Safilo Group and Special Olympics Renew Their Longstanding Partnership Until 2027

The two organizations confirm the continuation of a collaboration that has been active for over twenty years.

The partnership between Safilo Group—a key player in the eyewear market for the design, production, and distribution of sunglasses, optical frames, helmets, goggles, and outdoor eyewear—and Special Olympics continues.

The renewal of this longstanding partnership until 2027 was celebrated during the opening ceremony of the Special Olympics World Winter Games in Turin on March 8, 2025. This agreement underscores the shared commitment to eye health and vision care for athletes with intellectual disabilities, a mission that has been carried out globally for over 22 years—and will continue into the future.

Over the years, Special Olympics athletes worldwide have received prescription frames and sunglasses through the Special Olympics Lions Clubs International Foundation Opening Eyes program. Safilo employees have also participated as volunteers at Opening Eyes events, where athletes undergo eye exams, receive prescription frames, and receive guidance for further check-ups.

"At Safilo, we believe that eye health should not be a privilege but a fundamental right. For over 20 years, our partnership with Special Olympics has allowed us not only to provide eyewear and equipment but also to help bring dignity, self-confidence, and opportunities to thousands of athletes around the world," said Angelo Trocchia, CEO of Safilo Group. "The renewal of this agreement reaffirms our commitment to inclusion, accessibility, and eye health, ensuring that every athlete receives the necessary vision care to excel both in sports and in everyday life. We are proud to stand alongside Special Olympics and to continue supporting them in their mission. This commitment is part of Safilo’s purpose-led strategy based on three sustainability pillars: planet, product, and people.”

Special Olympics CEO Mary Davis added: "The renewal of our partnership with Safilo is not just an extension of our collaboration, but a testament to our shared commitment to the right to health for people with intellectual disabilities. Vision health is often overlooked, yet it is an essential part of an athlete’s success. We are delighted to celebrate this milestone at the Special Olympics World Winter Games in Turin 2025 and to continue expanding our impact, allowing every athlete to see a clearer and brighter future ahead."
