Record opening at MIDO 2019
Minister Bonisoli: “MIDO is like a 3-star restaurant”.
MIDO 2019 opens with flying colors, a master of excellence and internationality, with 70% of exhibitors from overseas.
"In a display of amazing vitality, MIDO 2019 opens with record-shattering figures: 32,000 pre-registered visitors, an additional 20,000 expected and 1,323 exhibitors. The general climate in the stands and in the seven pavilions is one of cutting-edge avant-garde, where design and innovations feature prominently in Italian and international exhibitors’ offerings. The 49th MIDO once again proves to be the world’s leading showcase of eyewear and Italian-made excellence. A new, outstanding result for the show that encourages us to look to the future with confidence and optimism for the entire industry”, commented Giovanni Vitaloni – President of MIDO and ANFAO.
Visiting the show today, Alberto Bonisoli, Minister of Cultural Heritage and Activities, remarked: “I’m extremely honored to have been invited to attend MIDO’s inauguration day for two reasons: first, because this is a sign of recognition by the world of eyewear, which MIDO represents, of the start of a close liaison between the Government and industry professionals. The second reason is that participating in MIDO is akin to being invited to dinner in a 3-star restaurant. It’s a must-attend event for those interested in and sensitive to what is going on in the fashion system. MIDO is the best venue to view the most sophisticated, highly sought-after Italian excellence in a truly international setting, where Italy’s prestige leads the way”.
Spotted in the fair halls today were some sports celebs like Formula 1 drivers Tatiana Calderon and Pierre Gasly, and actor Giorgia Palmas.
Tomorrow’s events are dedicated to professional updating and information at Otticlub, including the Optical Monitor, which surveyed the eyewear buying habits of consumers in China, Russia, the US and Japan; and the WGSN report on the latest trends.
Also tomorrow, winners will be announced in the Design and Innovation categories of the most eagerly anticipated community event, the BESTORE AWARD.
