Occhio al BIO: Final Event of the Bioplastics Project in Eyewear
Innovation, research, and sustainability: a discussion on bioplastics in the eyewear industry.
On March 27, 2025, the Museo dell’Occhiale in Pieve di Cadore (BL) will host the final event of the "Occhio al BIO" project, an initiative co-funded by the Fondazione Cariverona and developed by Certottica - the Italian Institute for Certification of Optical Products and Personal Protective Equipment - in collaboration with the Department of Civil, Environmental, and Mechanical Engineering (DICAM) at the University of Trento.
The project's objective is to provide greater clarity for eyewear industry companies regarding the use of bioplastics, monitoring their evolution and promoting research in this field. The event represents an opportunity to discuss the results achieved and explore future perspectives for the sector, with contributions from national and international experts.
The day will open with institutional greetings from the Museo dell’Occhiale and the Fondazione Cariverona, followed by presentations from industry specialists. Among the speakers, Dr. Marco Calvi (Certottica) will analyze the use of bioplastics in the eyewear sector, while Prof. Luca Fiori and Dr. Lukasz Niedzwiecki (University of Trento) will discuss the recovery and reuse of bioplastic waste in eyewear production.
Further presentations will include Dr. Werner Tirler (Eco Research Bolzano), who will explore the role of hydrothermal carbonization in the circular economy, and Prof. Valentina Beghetto (Ca’ Foscari University of Venice), who will present the Interreg Italy-Austria BeSoGreat project focused on enhancing agro-industrial waste through 3D printing.
The session will conclude with Marco Giunta (EcosMed Social Cooperative), who will address the social aspect of sustainability through the LIFE RESTART project.
The event will end with a Q&A session, and participants will also have the opportunity to join a guided tour of the Museo dell’Occhiale in the afternoon.
Registration is mandatory and can be completed via the following link: https://forms.gle/UpXfe22s6UoYUTBa8.
The initiative is supported by the Fondazione Cariverona and is organized in collaboration with Certottica Group, the Museo dell’Occhiale, and the University of Trento. This is a valuable opportunity to delve into the topic of bioplastics and their role in sustainability and innovation within the optical sector.
