In the U.S. today marks National Sunglasses Day
For the past few years, The Vision Council - the American American nonprofit association committed to promoting growth in the vision care industry through education, advocacy, research, consumer outreach, strategic relationship building and industry forums - has established National Sunglasses Day in the U.S. in order to raise awareness of the importance of wearing sunglasses to protect against UV rays year-round.
The choice of June 27 is not accidental since the longest days of the year occur right around the end of this month, and it is only natural that the day was scheduled at a time when the eyes are most at risk from hypothetical vision damage related to long hours of exposure to sunlight.
For the occasion, WMIDO polled the CEO of the Vision Council, Ashley Mills: “Sunglasses play a crucial role in ensuring better vision for a better life. Not only is wearing sunglasses integral to overall vision health, but sunglasses empower us to look and perform our best. We welcome everyone to join us as we celebrate National Sunglasses Day on June 27 and encourage sunglass use year-round.”
The new social media 2023 campaign in celebration of this annual commemorative holiday, “Share Your Solar Flair,” encourages people around the globe to protect their eyes from harmful UV radiation while showing off their personal style by wearing sunglasses on June 27, 2023.
