A celebration of Italian design featuring exclusive installations and inspiring conversations

The Salone del Mobile in Milan returns across the ocean to bring Italian design to New York, thanks to a collaboration with Bloomingdale’s. On Wednesday, September 4th, the prestigious department store in the Big Apple will host the installation “Italian Design: from Classic to Contemporary,” as part of the “From Italy, with Love” project, running from September 5th to 29th, dedicated to Italian culture, luxury, and art.

This special showcase, focused on Italian furniture production, is curated by architect Ferruccio Laviani and is inspired by Giorgio de Chirico's metaphysical piazzas. The exhibition celebrates both iconic classics and new offerings from 23 companies representing the Made in Italy sector, carefully selected by Laviani: Artemide, Edra, Flexform, Flou, Foscarini, Frigerio, Gallotti&Radice, Gessi, Kartell, Lema, Living Divani, Minotti, Molteni&C, Oluce, Porro, Riva 1920, Scavolini, Sigma L2, Tacchini, Technogym, Turri, Villari, Visionnaire.

Visitors will have the opportunity to explore the installation on the store’s sixth floor, within the Home/Furnishing department, where the space will be transformed into an immersive experience highlighting the heritage of the Salone and the creativity and design expertise of its exhibitors. Additionally, Laviani will pay tribute to the renowned Italian sculptor and set designer Mario Ceroli, Luca Ronconi—one of the most influential figures in post-war Italian theater, known for his bold innovations—and one of the masters of Italian design, Achille Castiglioni.

Curated by Annalisa Rosso, Editorial Director and Cultural Events Consultant for the Salone, the “Conversations on Italian Design” series will feature the most influential voices in the Italian and international interior design scene. It’s an opportunity to reflect on the significance and future of design and Made in Italy production and to discover the selected furniture pieces on display: three episodes that tell the story of Italian creativity and the close relationship between design, industry, and the Salone del Mobile.
