Until October 13 at Triennale Milano, the retrospective honoring the architect, designer, artist, and theorist
Triennale Milano and Fondation Cartier celebrate Alessandro Mendini, internationally renowned architect and designer, with the exhibition: "I Am a Dragon. The True Story of Alessandro Mendini."
It is an extensive retrospective—produced in collaboration with Fondation Cartier pour l'art contemporain, curated by Fulvio Irace with exhibition design by Pierre Charpin—showcasing over 400 works by Mendini until October 13, 2024. The works come from both public and private collections, and the exhibition aims to reflect the artist’s perspective on the world, his empathy towards everyday objects, and his ability to transform the ordinary into poetry.
The exhibition is divided into six thematic sections and brings together works of various formats, materials, and subjects that explore different aspects of Mendini’s thought and career: from self-portraits to architectural works such as the Groninger Museum and the Mediazentrum Madsack, along with his research on "fragilism," a celebration of fragility in a world marked by violence.
There are also iconic, oversized objects like the "Proust Armchair" and the "Petite Cathédrale," welcoming visitors into an immersive environment.
The title I Am a Dragon refers to one of Mendini’s most emblematic self-portraits, highlighting the complexity of his figure within the international design, architecture, and art scene.
The exhibition will be open until October 13, 2024.
