From De Rigo two solidarity initiatives in collaboration with the Veneto Region.

Restarting safely and creating a new normality are, if possible, an even greater challenge than the one we have left behind; a condition that requires us to see the world through new eyes and that we can only hope to achieve together, working as a team.

De Rigo is well aware of this fact, which is why it has decided to give a concrete sign of its commitment to the economic recovery by developing two initiatives carried out in collaboration with the local authorities of the Veneto region, one of the areas hit hardest by the pandemic.

The agreement with BMR Genomics

The Group’s thoughts were instantly with the region’s healthcare system, so severely tested by the emergency, and translated into a 100,000 Euro donation made to the ULSS n.1 Dolomiti local health and social care facility in Belluno through an agreement with BMR Genomics, a spin-off of the University of Padua specialised in DNA analysis and directed by Prof. Giorgio Valle.

With De Rigo’s contribution, BMR Genomics will analyse the nasopharyngeal swabs of 2,500 hospital healthcare workers. Moreover, in collaboration with ULSS n.1 Dolomiti, the spin-off will study around one hundred viral genomes from Belluno and compare them against those from other areas in order to evaluate the evolution of the spread of the COVID-19 virus in the territory and assess any differences with other known coronavirus strains.

The initiative aims to reward Veneto’s 10,0000 medical and paramedical workers

De Rigo has also developed a region-wide project, intended as a symbolic gesture of gratitude towards Veneto’s healthcare workers, who in recent months have been on the front line working to protect the entire community. They, more than anyone else, after seeing so much pain, deserve to be able to “see the world through new eyes”.

Developed in collaboration with the local health authorities, the initiative aims to reward 10,000 of Veneto’s medical and paramedical workers engaged in the fight against COVID-19 with the gift of a pair of De Rigo sunglasses or prescription frames.
