In support of this goal, the Company has embarked on an ambitious roadmap that includes major investments in retail related to energy efficiency, building less and better, circularity in the use of materials and waste management. EssilorLuxottica is working to obtain international certifications for innovative energy consumption as well as the use of recycled or regenerated materials, and it is also testing possibilities to generate new materials from eyewear production waste that could be useful for its retail, office and showroom spaces.
Milestone Store for Salmoiraghi & Viganò
EssilorLuxottica recently marked a milestone in its journey toward in-store sustainability with the opening of its first Salmoiraghi & Viganò store being considered for WELL certification, which sets the standard for health leadership.
Located in the Merlata Bloom shopping center near Milan, the new store is built according to the highest standards of modern urban planning, respecting the environment and surrounding landscape. Strengthened by its symbiosis between architecture and nature, its design uses a variety of anti-polluting, renewable and natural raw materials as well as energy-efficient solutions and greenery to contribute to clean air and overall good health.
This respected certification helps deliver objectives outlined in its Eyes on the Planet program, and is part of a broader framework of initiatives being implemented by Salmoiraghi & Viganò to achieve greater sustainability, including service circularity, responsible shipping, last-mile deliveries, use of bio-based materials and more.
400 WELL Certified Stores in 3 Years
At corporate level, EssilorLuxottica has made a commitment to implement a three-year plan from 2024 to gradually improve its retail banner spaces, including WELL certification for 400 Salmoiraghi & Viganò, LensCrafters and Sunglass Hut stores in both Europe and the US.
