Chidy Wayne interprets Kaleos

Written by MIDO | 12/22/2023

Kaleos has commissioned Chidy Wayne - multidisciplinary artist from Spanish Guinea, now living in Barcelona - to produce a work of art which can reflect and interpret the company origins and spirit.

Wayne’s creativity has produced the picture "The beautiful shape". The artist commented on his work: “For Kaleos I had in mind the idea of focusing on the eyes and gaze, since that is what is worn or protected by glasses. After all, in my work there are many references and influences from primordial nature. So, it didn’t seem to have much sense to me that the works featured glasses. Instead, I wanted to show a figure who looks at the spectator directly, in a conscious manner. It seemed interesting to me to do this subtly, yet at the same time in a very direct way, relevant to the way Kaleos works.”

Who is Chidy Wayne
Wayne began his professional career at the end of the 2000s as a fashion designer but his sketches and skill with pencils and watercolours soon led to commissions for illustrations as opposed to clothes. In an attempt to create an aesthetic and conceptual work, excess is put aside, delving instead more deeply into the drawing, creating a minimalist and gestural work.

Wayne’s works are influenced by artistic avantgardism, and ancestral and cultural elements that give his artwork an almost primitive look even though urban art and contemporary shapes also contribute to his style.
