Quietly set up 12 years ago, VOS is the space dedicated to leading-edge eyewear at the Hong Kong Optical Fair. Kamen Chung, its creator, talks about its evolution.il-progetto-visionnaire-of-style_wmido_1 Can you explain how the project “Visionnaire of Style” was born and whatit is exactly?Before2004, at the Hong Kong Optical Fair (HKOF) there were only OEM (Original Equipment Manufacturer) instruments and asmall selection of brands. Having considered that Hong Kong is an international city with increasing influencein the world, Istrongly believed that HKOF should really transform and be more prosperous and marketable. The transformation is for the sake of the whole industry and something must be executed as soon as possible. A brand zone is what I wanted to create underthese circumstances.When did “Visionnaire of Style” start?It started in 2004. This year will be the 12th. In the first year of VOS, we had only 10 exhibitors. But we have been growing significantly in terms of the number of exhibitors and VOS image. This year, we have gathered 60 international designer brands. For example, Vanni, Coco Song, Götti Switzerland, Andy Wolf, Masaunaga, Vera Wang, Face à Face and somany promising brands. Over the years,VOS has been widely identified as a Designer Brand Pavilion.We won the unanimous approvalof the industry. And now we aim at expanding VOS, from Hong Kong to other Asian countrieswith a view of promotingthe concept of the Designer Brand Pavilion and supporting designer brands. How do you select the companies?We put a lot of valuein design philosophy. The chosen companies are veryconscious aboutdesign, function and material quality. We gather them together and present the market some groundbreaking brands. All in all, original design is of paramount importance.Brands which infringe someone else’s intellectual property rights are definitely prohibited.Is there anything new this year?This year, all brands will be moved to the Grand Hall. It willbecome a real Brand Pavilion which hostsonly eyewear brands. Inprevious years, VOS was located in Hall 1 where different categories (like OEM, machines... etc.) were mixedtogether. Now, only eyewear brands will be exhibiting here. It reflectshuge progress inexhibit layout and arrangement.We set a different theme for VOS every year and the theme this year is Optical Wonderland. We are dedicated to providing exhibitors with the best exhibitexperience and this year we will make VOS as fascinating as ever. The splendid set-up will for sure make VOS shine admid other zones. Furthermore,a strong sense of design and innovation will pervade the atmosphere.Additionally,this year, we will continue to hold a business matching party on the second day of HKOF. I am sure it will be as successful as in previous years.
