Successful exports

Successful exports

Italy’s eyewear grew in the first half of 2015, confirming its leadership position in foreign markets.

ANFAO (the Italian association of eyewear manufacturers, member of Confindustria) figures for the period January-June 2015 confirm the growth of a sector that exports over 80% of its total output: exports of frames, sunglasses and lenses rose 14.5% in terms of value compared to the same period of the previous year. This is a significant figure, especially after the strong performance already recorded by exports in 2014.
The positive performance of exports in the first half of 2015 is attributable to a similar increase experienced by both the sector’s segments with exports of sunglasses and frames up 15.1% and 13.5%, respectively.
America, Asia and Europe were the topperforming areas. In America, exports of sunglasses/frames rose 26.3% on the same period of 2014 (+25.1% for sunglasses and +29.8% for frames).
In this area, North America achieved the best results (+32%). In Asia, exports grew +21.4% in the first half of 2015 (+19.4% for sunglasses and +28.8% for frames). In Europe, the sector’s total exports rose 7.9% in the first six months of 2015 (+8.9% for sunglasses and +6% for frames). Exports to emerging markets remained positive, including those where the Italian market is already successful and those recently penetrated.
Market shares’ figures remain of little significance; consequently, both positive and negative threedigit indicators are easy to record. However, this is an excellent opportunity for Italian eyewear exports. Consequently, the trend recorded at the end of 2014 remains unchanged.
Therefore, there is a bright future for eyewear exports, despite the new changes in the economic scenario which characterised the summer period.
A further positive indicator is the fact that this sector has always reacted to changes and opportunities turning exports and globalisation into the key element of success which enabled it to become a world leader.
