Carrera Ski Racing Team triumphs at World Cup
This year the final races of the 2007/2008 World Ski Championships were held at Bormio in Valtellina in a highly enthusiastic and cheerful atmosphere. Throughout the season, the Carrera Ski Racing Team chalked up an incredible number of successes and took CARRERA helmets and goggles to the top steps of the most prestigious podiums.
It was an exciting championship for Italy's Manfred Moelgg, who was crowned world slalom champion: after a great start when he gained the third step on the podium for the men's slalom at Reiteralm (Switzerland), he collected one victory after another: 2nd and 3rd place in the giant and slalom, respectively, at Bad Kleinkirchheim, second place in the slalom at Garmisch, and second again in the giant at Kranjska Gora, where he succeeded brilliantly in completing two perfect runs in the slalom March 9.
Great results also for his sister Manuela Moelgg. She came 2nd in the giant slalom classification, the perfect end to a year of brilliant results, such as 2nd place at Maribor, 3rd at Panorama (Canada) and 2nd at Bormio.
Excellent runs also for Austria's Elisabeth Goergl. After her success in the slalom at Maribor she came 2nd in the giant slalom at Spindleruv Mlyn (Czech Republic) and closed the season with a 3rd place in the giant slalom classification and 2nd place in the super G.
Some of the other successes this year were two second places for Sweden's Jens Byggmark, who did himself credit in the slalom at Bad Kleinkirchheim and at Wengen January 12.
Michael Walchhofer of Austria was confirmed as the king of the downhill and he stepped onto the highest step of the podium at Beaver Creek (Colorado) November 30 and the Val Gardena slopes in Italy December 15.
Great satisfaction also for Mario Matt of Austria, a new member of the team, who came second in the giant slalom at Beaver Creek and first in the slalom at Adelboden, Swizerland, and in the special at Zagreb.
Switzerland's Marc Berthod also did himself proud when he came third in the giant slalom at La Villa in Alta Badia and first in the race at Adelboden January 5.
Anja Paerson swept the board at St. Moritz, Switzerland, where she won both the downhill December 15 and the super G Sunday 16. At Crans Montana, she dominated the slalom to come third in the super combined classification.
