Luxottica and LensCrafter set to conquer Beijing
Lenscrafters' new Flagship store was inaugurated in Beijing at the Oriental Plaza, the city's most fashionable shopping mall, a stone's throw from Tien An Men Square.
The event was attended by the top management of the company, extremely satisfied with the result. « In China», says Leonardo Del Vecchio, chairman of Luxottica, « we are leaders in optical retail and one of the largest luxury goods retailers.
The launch of Lenscrafters marks the start of a new era for Made in Italy and luxury eyewear in this key market».
In China, Luxottica already works with the Sunglass Hut chains for normal sunglasses and the premium range over 30 $. In the 'Middle Kingdom', 90% of the market consists of the first range and 10% of the second, which is continuing to grow, and 40% of this is owned by Luxottica.
Lenscrafters, the group's historic brand, is the most prestigious brand of top-of-the-range optics for the North American market. Thus the group can offer the best of Made in Italy eyewear also in China, presenting itself as the first real optics « boutique» for the Chinese market, and a point of reference for top-of-the-range eyewear.
In a market, which is by no means easy because a group such as Luxottica, which works with designer products, has to deal with the problem of fakes.
Luxottica operates in China with 270 stores in Beijing, Shanghai, the Guangdong province and Hong Kong, creating the largest network of top-of-the- range shops in China. This is why it is convinced it can succeed in educating consumers for top quality products.
