Belgium: 1 person in 8 should not be driving
According to a University Hospital of Antwerp study on the link between vision defects and road safety, carried out in collaboration with the Pearle chain of opticians' stores, the eyesight of one person in eight is not good enough for driving and could lead to the withdrawal of their driving license.
The Belgian Center for driving eligibility (Cara, the Belgian Institute for Road Safety - IBSR) every year examines 4,000 patients: around 1,800 of them have vision deficiencies, but 90% drive transport vehicles.
