The Budapest label has launched the 357 collection, under a new brand name: Caliber Optics. The line is the first performance oriented collection from the company, and is notable for its innovative design work to repurpose used materials, in this case, old brass cartridges or casings.
More than 12 billion casings are produced globally per year, according to the company. To incorporate them into a frame design, each casing is machined to fit the temple tip and then washed before being built into a 357 frame.
The collection is described as being inspired by the philosophy of the 357 Magnum with emphasis on balance, durability and design. The frame front is stainless steel and uses a semi rimless construction to hold the lens in place to reduce frame front weight. A compressed spring is machined into the beta titanium temples for maximum flexibility and comfort.
