The Tyrolean brand develops tactile texture in 3D printed substance mount collection

The Tyrolean eyeglasses manufacturer Rolf kicks off Spring/Summer 2022 with the introduction of a new tactile texture in their 3D printed collection made from beans. According to a spokesperson for the brand, this is the first texture of others to be unveiled, each one inspired by nature.Upon close inspection, the new effect looks like the frames are shattering, giving the effect of ice floes in the Arctic, rocky mountain peaks, or cracks in dry earth.
“We wanted to make the concept of sustainability, which is central to everything we do, tangible and visible in our designs. Thanks to the latest technological advances, we’ve been able to move away from the usual smooth frames and create a feature using discreet textures, thereby turning everyday eyeglasses into something quite special. It’s fitting that the new models are part of the substance collection and therefore made out of the beans of a fast-growing species of the Euphorbiaceae family. This means environmentally aware eyeglass wearers get a pair of plant-based spectacles with an organic pattern that are a symbol of our appreciation of nature,” summarizes designer Johannes Wacker.
ROLF has been awarded a series of accolades in recent months for its achievements in 'green' design and innovation, including the Green Product Award, the SEAL Business Sustainability Award, and the New York Product Design Award.
