A new collection at FACE A FACE is inspired by Japanese design icons
A new collection at FACE A FACE is inspired by Japanese design icons.
A new-season collection by FACE A FACE, which continues an exploration of the Italian MEMPHIS movement, is inspired by a surprising connection with contemporary Japanese design. The work of the Japanese designers Shiro Kuramata, Issey Miyake, Rei Kawakubo and Kengo Kuma was the starting point of the concept that emerged.
FACE A FACE drew inspiration from this movement with playful details, interesting 3D effects and colour combinations in the eyewear collection they have named “JAPAN NOW!”. Each of the new design ideas then reflected the interplay of the subtlety of Japanese design and the exuberance of the MEMPHIS movement, the design team at FACE A FACE explain.
The line includes model Kyoto, a sculpted frame concept inspired by Shiro Kuramata’s iconic armchair with a cylindrical backrest – ‘Sofa with Arms’. The FACE A FACE frame style features cylindrical temples and comes in three bold shapes, a panto, hexagon and large square design. Model Pleats is inspired by Issey Miyake’s iconic work with pleats and achieves a special effect with eye-catching three-tone acetates, while model Nendo pays homage to the work of the eponymous design studio, making a feature of skilful milling to create a halo effect in the back of the frame front.
