Aggiungendo un altro negozio sulla mappa del brand in continua espansione, il primo store di Londra porta i punti vendita a quota 20. Quest'ultima incarnazione si trova al 12-13 di Conduit Street, nel quartiere Mayfair di Londra.   Conosciuto per i negozi altamente specializzati e l'atmosfera sofisticata, Mayfair ospita un esclusivo ventaglio ricco di boutique di moda, ristoranti e gallerie che insieme formano il contesto ideale per l'ultima location di John Varvatos. Con oltre 10.000 mq dislocati su tre piani, lo store di Londra è attualmente il più grande e offrirà l'intera selezione dell'abbigliamento maschile del marchio, tra cui la collezione John Varvatos, John Varvatos Star USA e Converse by John Varvatos. "L'apertura del primo store a Londra, per me, è la coronazione di un sogno. Sin da quand'ero ragazzino a Detroit, Londra era la città che più di ogni altra volevo visitare ed esplorare. Il mio collegamento con questa città da quando ero adolescente negli anni '70 non ha avuto pari", ha commentato Varvatos. Con l'esclusiva posizione al crocevia tra sensibilità rock n' roll, antica maestria artigiana e innovazione moderna, Varvatos è diventato uno degli stilisti d'abbigliamento maschile più conosciuti al mondo. Rifacendosi all'architettura tradizionale, l'ultimo store John Varvatos mostra una facciata nel classico stile londinese, dagli elementi verticali al cornicione. Gli interni al piano terra e ai piani superiori mostrano mattoni bianchi a vista, camerini di prova integrati e antichi elementi in ferro. Gli scuri parquet a lisca di pesce sono ricoperti di tappeti realizzati a mano che ricreano un senso di intimità, offrendo al cliente un'esperienza shopping calorosa e invitante. Guidato dalla passione per la maestria artigiana, John ha lavorato fianco a fianco con un fabbro artigiano per realizzare a mano, tra gli altri, serramenti e tavolini portalampada che impreziosiscono gli spazi. Con un mix eclettico di pezzi moderni e antichi trovati in tutto il mondo, come un'antica cassettiera proveniente dagli uffici del governo francese riconvertita in un espositore di calzature e accessori, e un sofà di oltre 3,5 m della metà del secolo rivestito con flanella color carbone, lo shop racchiude in sé lo stile chic di Varvatos. A piano terra, si trova un elegante assortimento della Collezione John Varvatos appositamente selezionato per adattarsi all'atmosfera cosmopolita ponendo l'accento su strepitosi capi moderni, articoli sportivi e calzature impreziositi da dettagli artigianali. L'intera linea di fragranze, eyewear, gioielli dalle influenze "rock" come pure l'edizione limitata di orologi Ernst Benz by John Varvatos completano l'offerta. In collaborazione con Rock Paper Photo, il piano terra ospita inoltre una gallery dedicata di scatti famosi e inediti firmati dai più eminenti nomi della fotografia nel mondo della musica, come rari ritratti in momenti di intimità e performance live dei grandi della musica dagli anni '60 fino a oggi.   Per la location di Londra, Varvatos ha curato la collezione di immagini concentrandosi sulle icone del jazz e del rhythm and blues; sarà possibile acquistare stampe artistiche in edizione limitata, autografate dai loro autori. L'area, inondata di luce naturale proveniente da un ampio lucernario (circa 15x30 cm), è impreziosita da una cassettiera vintage di legno, trovata in un mercatino dell'antiquariato di Londra, e da due finestre in vetro colorato recuperate in un vecchio pub. A collegamento tra il piano terra e i piani superiori, una scala curva con corpo in quercia scura si trova sospesa tra due file di barre di acciaio annerite che creano uno spazio semichiuso. In aggiunta a tutto ciò, due sensazionali lampadari a forma di dente di leone degli anni '70 attraversano un'imponente apertura illuminando entrambi i piani. I serramenti sono il chiaro riflesso dell'atmosfera rocker-gentleman. Essenzialmente incentrato su un capi formali realizzati su misura, il piano superiore accoglie i clienti con oltre 1.000 specchi convessi color bronzo appositamente realizzati a copertura del soffitto. Trovato in un castello nella Francia del Sud, un gigantesco specchio con cornice di legno intagliato del XVII secolo, la cui età è tradita dalla patina che lo caratterizza, si erge per circa 2,75 m di fronte al bow-window dell'edificio che si affaccia sul traffico cittadino. Qui un servizio guardaroba personale e un programma "made to measure" unisce l'antica lavorazione della sartoria raffinata a un'esperienza speciale per la clientela. Grazie a questa combinazione, Varvatos offre il non plus ultra dello styling, della selezione e del servizio personalizzati. Since I was a young boy growing up in Detroit, London is the city I most wanted to visit and explore. My connection with it from my teens in the 70’s has been like no other,” says Varvatos.   With a unique brand position that unites a rock n' roll sensibility, old world craftsmanship and modern innovation, Varvatos has become one of the most well-known menswear designers in the world. His designs often draw inspiration from the past only to repurpose these ideas into something entirely new. The resulting collections reflect quality and attention to detail while creating luxurious, comfortable clothing for a modern lifestyle.   Drawing from local architecture, the latest John Varvatos store showcases a classic London storefront from its columns to its cornice. The interior details of the ground and upper levels include white exposed brick walls, custom built-in wardrobes and antique hardware elements. Dark wood herringbone floors covered with hand-crafted carpets create intimate areas throughout, thus giving the client a warm and inviting shopping experience. Guided by his love for craftsmanship, John worked with an ironworker to design artisanal hand-forged items, including fixtures and accent tables that can be seen throughout the space. With an eclectic mix of antique and modern pieces found around the world, such as a repurposed antique French government filing cabinet, used as a display for footwear and accessories, and a twelve foot charcoal flannel mid-century couch, the store encompasses a chic Varvatos aesthetic.   The ground level offers a luxurious well-appointed assortment of the John Varvatos Collection which is chosen to suit the cosmopolitan local with a focus on modern runway pieces, sportswear and footwear styles with artisanal details. The full line of Varvatos fragrances, eyewear, rock-influenced jewelry, and Ernst Benz by John Varvatos limited edition watches are also available round out the product offerings.   In partnership with Rock Paper Photo, a dedicated gallery in the rear of the ground level features familiar and unpublished work from the biggest names in music photography, as well as rare intimate portraits and live-performance shots of music greats from the 1960’s through current day.   Varvatos has curated a collection of images with a focus on iconic jazz and rhythm and blues greats for the London location – limited edition fine art prints, hand-signed by the photographers will be available for purchase. The area, flooded by natural light emanating from a large 6’ x 12’ skylight, is accented by a vintage wooden flat file cabinet, found in a London antique market and two stained glass windows salvaged from an old pub.   Connecting the ground and upper levels, a curved floating stairway with dark oak slab treads is suspended by blackened steel rods, creating a semi-enclosed area. Additionally, two dramatic dandelion pendant light fixtures from the 1970’s pass through a large cutout illuminating both levels, the fixtures are a clear reflection of the store’s rocker-cum-gentleman feel.   With a strong focus on tailored clothing and formalwear, the upper level greets customers with over 1,000 custom-made bronze convex mirrors covering the ceiling. Found in a castle in the South of France, an oversized 17th century carved wooden mirror, whose age is given away by its patina, stands 9 feet tall in front of the buildings bow windows that overlook the bustling city. Here a personal wardrobe service and made to measure program provides old world workmanship with refined tailoring and an enriched shopping experience. An exposed white brick coffered ceiling, uncovered during renovation, gives the space a raw feel.   A personal listening and buying experience lies behind red velvet curtains where a broad assortment of vintage and contemporary vinyl focused on rock and jazz.
