Il corridore della Cannondale Pro Cycling ha staccato i compagni di fuga a 3,5 km dall'arrivo e ha vinto in solitaria precedendo di 23" un altro sloveno, Bozic dell'Astana.   Sagan è entusiasta: "Aspettavo da tempo di vincere una Classica del Nord. Queste corse sono le mie preferite e mi si addicono anche. Perché non ho aspettato la volata? Mi sentivo molto forte, meglio evitare eventuali brutte sorprese.
